Does the thought of school homework fill you with dread?

Then we can help - We also run small informal Maths courses "Mums, Coffee, Cakes and Maths" during the school day from my home in Benfleet, Essex for parents/carers who want to be able to help their children with their Maths homework but find the whole subject
too intimidating.
Maths is taught so differently to how we used to learn it, with number bonds, bridging through 10 partitioning, chunking etc. What is this all about? and why is it taught so differently?
In small groups of up to 6 people, we chat through how Maths is taught today
and help you to help your child. You can even bring your child's homework with
you. The price is £20 per person per session for groups of up to 7 people (£25
per session for groups of 4 or less.)
These sessions have proved very popular for groups of mums whose children attend the same school and who prefer to come along with people they know. You are welcome to get your group's diaries together and then let me know the choice of dates/times that are most convenient for you all. Ante-natal friends whose children are now at school also find this a useful and enjoyable one off alternative to their weekly coffee mornings. Sessions are usually run on a Tuesday 10am -2.30pm but these can be flexible so please contact me with your choice of dates. If you would like more information then please either call me on 07920 842569, email me on [email protected] or complete the contact form on the contact us page |
Testimonials from other mums about the sessions
Emma, Rayleigh"I had a great Maths lesson, Thanks Sue. It finally made
sense without me looking stupid" Barbara, Rayleigh"A big, massive thank you to Sue Comber for being a
fantastic Mum's tutor today. The Maths will not be so painful as I now have a better understanding of how it is taught in school. Thank you so much Sue, you did a great job. Keep up the good work. I feel like I have learnt so much today." Nikki, Rayleigh"Thanks Sue for a very informative Maths afternoon. I am now up to speed on how Maths is taught in Primary School.
I would certainly recommend your Mums,Coffee,Cakes and Maths sessions for parents." Julie, Rayleigh"Very good, and Maths ( my worst subject) was enjoyable !!!

Anna, Rayleigh"A big thank you to Sue Comber, it was great to be shown
how my little monkeys, are now taught Maths, a really informative, basic introduction for mums with infants or juniors. It was really worth it. It's great to finally grasp the methods that the kids are learning and to also see how that will go forwards up to year 6 and beyond." Gillian, Rayleigh"Thank you, I now understand the building blocks to help
my child. It was good to finally go through how my children are being taught, in a relaxed environment. I learned so much, highly recommended. I am now looking forward to helping my son with his Maths homework" Nicola, Leigh"Thank you so much Sue for the brilliant maths lesson
today. I now understand the way my 8 year old is being taught maths. Olivia is loving the 9 times table trick she was even doing it in bed tonight!" |
